dc.description.abstract The open clusters data compiled by Janes and Adler (1982) have been used to study the distribution of open clusters within 1500 pc of the Sun. It is found that the plane defined by the distribution of young open clusters is inclined to the formal galactic plane be an angle of 0.°5±0.4° and shows a maximum upward tilt towards l~50°. The scale height of the distribution of open clusters is found to be 52±6 pc. From a sub sample of open clusters towards the direction of maximum tilt, the Sun is found to be situated at a distance of 28±5 pc above the plane of symmetry defined by the open clusters. en_US
